NutriSystem Nourish System Information
Summary
NutriSystem
began 30 years ago as a diet program offering prepackaged meals and
dietary counseling. A few years ago, it went exclusively online as a
weight-loss program, complete with online counseling and menu planning.
Membership in the NutriSystem online community is free of
charge, so anyone can log on and take advantage of their services. New
members are assigned a personal weight-loss counselor, receive a menu
plan, a catalog of products, a food diary, a weight chart, an online
weekly newsletter, NutriBuddy groups, chat room support groups, and a
virtual exercise instructor that allows you to store your own
customized exercise program. You can purchase prepackaged entrees and
snacks, but they are not mandatory for you to be enrolled in the
program. However, Nutri/System=s menus incorporate its NuCruisine foods
throughout, making it difficult to follow the plan without buying the
products.
Suited for
People who do not like to cook or dine out. This a
good program for people who like structure and who have very busy lives.
Foods
NutriSystem
is a reduced calorie diet that focuses on balanced nutrition (60 %
carbohydrates, 20% fat, 20%protein). It revolves around the consumption
of pre packaged meals, which can be convenient and helpful in dealing
with controlling your portion size.
Support
Counselors
are available online from 7 a.m. to 2 a.m. EST Monday through Friday
and 12 p.m. to midnight EST Saturday and Sunday. Most areas of the Web
site are available around-the-clock for Areal-time@ counseling. You can
make an appointment with your assigned counselor or log on anytime for
help from any counselor who is available. Members are also given the
option of talking to ANutriBuddies@ fellow NutriSystem dieters
who can offer support as well. In addition, eDiets also provides a
modified version of the NutriSystem plan and includes all their
resources, including 24/7 support and information.
Thoughts
The
diet plan and menus are safe and well balanced; however I would avoid
the appetite suppressants sold along with their food. The downside to a
pre-packaged meal program is the considerable expense of the foods and
what happens when the diet ends. The key to the success of this diet is
the transitional period where the client goes from pre packaged to
regular, prepared meals.
